Release Notes

What changed in each version, newest first. The latest version can be downloaded straight from the home page.

v1.3.10

  • Fixed an issue where some windows would not come back after switching workspaces: in rare cases Evoke reported that the app was still running but no matching window could be found, even though the window had not actually been closed.
  • Evoke can now tell these two situations apart: the window really was closed, versus the app is temporarily not accepting window control. In the latter case it clearly tells you the window is still there and not lost, and offers a one-click restart for those apps — window control returns after the restart, and other apps are left completely untouched.
  • Fixed an issue where minimized or hidden windows would not pop back automatically when clicking a single app.

v1.3.9

  • Clearing the desktop now takes a single click: previously a few extra clicks could be needed before every window was tucked away; now one click sweeps up the stragglers and leaves you with a clean desktop.
  • Added the required Screen Recording purpose description: newer systems require an app to declare why it needs Screen Recording, and the previous version was missing this, so Evoke could not be granted the permission and window thumbnails and live previews did not appear. The permission can now be granted normally in System Settings.

v1.3.8

  • Smoother window movement: when snapping windows or restoring a workspace, position and size changes now animate with easing instead of jumping abruptly; back-to-back window changes transition more coherently.
  • Fixed an issue where transparent helper overlay windows (sharing the main window's title and floating above it, seen in apps like ChatGPT) could cause snapping and workspace restore to target the wrong window.
  • Several settings descriptions are now more accurate.

v1.3.7

  • Internal security upgrade: rotated the license signing key. Your activated license keeps working — no action needed.
  • No functional or UI changes.
  • Fixed missing device registration: after reinstalling the app, your Mac is now automatically re-registered in the "Registered Devices" list — previously such devices could stay hidden, making the device count inaccurate.
  • Device count and limit now display correctly, with no need to re-activate or contact support.

v1.3.5

  • Grant once, and you're set: after turning on Accessibility in System Settings you no longer need to restart the app — the ring works right away.
  • No more focus stealing: the app no longer brings System Settings to the front on its own, so you can finish flipping the switch in one go.
  • Workspaces really do bring your windows back: fixes the case where a workspace did contain a window, but switching to that workspace did not bring the window up.

v1.3.4

  • Changing Macs is easier now: if your license is already in use on 3 Macs, activating on a fourth one shows a "Device limit reached" message together with a Manage registered devices entry — release a device you no longer use there, then finish activating on this Mac.

v1.3.3

  • The app is now signed by our company and notarized by Apple: starting with this version, the installer is signed by Guangzhou Huanfang Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd., and the package has been notarized by Apple — the "unidentified developer" warning no longer appears on first launch, and you can simply double-click to open it.
  • You may need to re-grant a permission after updating: because the signing identity changed, macOS treats this build as one that needs confirmation again. If you previously allowed Accessibility or Screen Recording, please re-enable it once in System Settings → Privacy & Security (a fresh install is unaffected). Your existing license is unaffected — you do not need to re-enter your activation key.
  • No more "the shortcut did nothing": previously, when the system was low on memory, the app could be suspended by the system and never recover — the trigger key would do nothing until you restarted the app. It now stays active as much as possible, and if it does get suspended it recovers on its own within seconds.

v1.3.2

  • No more repeated prompts in "Apps that don't summon the ring": previously you got a prompt every time you held the trigger key inside those apps. Now each app is explained once only — if you remove an app and add it back, it will be explained again.
  • Prompts and settings text now follow your trigger key: if you set the trigger to ⌃ or ⇧, the explanations and keycaps show the key you actually chose (they used to always show ⌥).

v1.3.1

  • The English interface no longer mixes in Chinese: after switching to English, the conflict prompt on the main panel, the exemption overlay, the whole "System Suggestions" section in Settings, sound-effect and motion-preset names, the preview placeholder, and account activation messages were still shown in Chinese. They now all follow the interface language.
  • The window title follows the language too: it reads "念来" in Chinese and "Evoke" in English.
  • The "Follow System" option in the language menu is now localized as well.
  • Fallback names for untitled windows now follow the language (previously hard-coded in Chinese).

v1.3.0

  • The ring is frosted again in dark mode: previously the ring was almost fully transparent in dark mode and only had texture in light mode. Both appearances now match; light mode is unchanged.
  • The settings window now uses the standard macOS look: the sidebar material extends all the way to the top of the window, matching System Settings; the title bar is transparent and the three window buttons float over the sidebar.
  • Crash records: if the app ever quits unexpectedly, it now leaves a record of what happened so we can find the cause.

v1.2.3

  • Fixed: apps with every window closed no longer disappear from the ring. Apps that keep running with no window open — a browser or Finder after you close everything — used to vanish from the foreground ring now and then. They now stay on the ring, and selecting one reopens its window.
  • Fixed: the last piece of "holding ⌥ sometimes brings up nothing." Right after a trackpad momentum scroll settles, holding ⌥ is no longer mistaken for "⌥ + scroll" and used to dismiss the panel that had just appeared.
  • Ring membership can now be traced. Apps entering or leaving the foreground ring are recorded, so we can track down this class of intermittent problem.

v1.2.2

  • Fixed: "holding ⌥ brings up nothing." After you flick the trackpad and let go, macOS keeps delivering a tail of momentum-scroll events. Holding ⌥ during that tail used to be misread as "⌥ + scroll" and the invocation was swallowed — it felt as if nothing happened until you pressed again. The tail no longer interrupts invocation, and real combinations such as ⌥ + scroll to zoom still work.
  • Fixed: an update that left the old problem in place — because you were not running the fixed build. "Fix merged, every check green, yet the user still hits the old problem" happened because the build pipeline and the app you actually run were two separate product lines that nothing cross-checked. The app now states on launch exactly which build is running, and whether that build contains the current fixes is verified automatically.
  • Fixed: the French and Spanish interfaces were showing German. Both languages now display the correct French and Spanish text.
  • Fixed: the Pro upgrade price showed the wrong currency in some regions. It no longer hard-codes the yuan sign and follows your region instead.
  • Added a Refund Policy page, plus English versions of the Terms of Service, Privacy Policy and Refund Policy.
  • The website purchase channel is now marked "coming soon": until payment and automatic key delivery are verified end to end, the button no longer leads to a dead page and we make no claims we cannot back up — free downloads and the 7-day Pro trial are unaffected.

v1.2.1

  • Fixed: preview windows showing semi-transparent black blocks, blank frames, or a frame captured mid-animation. Previews are now captured from the window itself, so they are unaffected by occlusion; blank frames are never written to the cache and stale bad frames are no longer read back.
  • The ⌥ trigger key no longer breaks in-app keyboard combinations. In some apps, holding ⌥ used to disable that app's own ⌥ shortcuts (typing special characters, ⌥+Return, ⌥+scroll to zoom). Such combinations are now recognised and given the right of way; in apps on the exception list, double-tapping ⌥ still brings up the ring.
  • New way to trigger: double-tap ⌥. Two quick taps within 250 ms bring up the ring — handy if you use ⌥ combinations a lot.
  • New self-healing conflict prompt. When ⌥ is frequently used for combinations in a given app, the panel asks whether to separate the trigger key for that app, and the choice can be undone with one click.
  • The ring's appearance and dismissal were rebuilt: it now emerges from the black hole and is drawn back into it, with physical momentum and easing curves, and it no longer just vanishes after a switch.
  • Fixed stutter and delay when opening the ring; the mis-tap threshold was tightened from 150 ms to 120 ms so it feels more responsive.
  • Fixed: the settings window kept stale text after switching language.
